San Telmo - Calañas (26.1 Kms.)

Autor: Pepe Contreras / Traductor: Roman Melzer

After crossing the entire Sierra de Aracena, this section continues with scenary tipical of the the Huelva landscape - eucalyptus groves. Eucalyptus trees are part of Huelva's lumber industry. For this reason, the scenary changes depending on whether the trees are have benn planted, cut down or are growing.

From the village of San Telmo to Cerro de Andévalo our route unfolds along a road which is either flat or slightly down hill, except for the entrance to town where we encounter a climb. Shortly after leaving Cerro de Andévalo, specifically after the crossroads of the abandoned train station and the also abandoned train tracks of El Jaroso, we'll have to put our orienteering skills to the test, especially if we're not equiped with a GPS.

The difficulty level of the section, which is qualifies as medium, is due to the complexity of finding our way from this point onward. This due to the fact that we enter a eucalyptus grove where the tracks change due to the needs of planting and harvesting the trees.
