In this section we'll lean out of the Atlantic again, which will play the leading role in the landscape. The route started running between pine trees, bringing us near of the luxurious residential areas and hotels of Novo Sancti Petri, Torre del Puerco and Roche. From here, the route runs by the edge of a spectacular cliff dotted with tiny coves. Beaches in this zone worth a stop and a dip in the sea (in case de weather was good). From the lighthouse of 'Cabo Roche' we'll make out under us the port of 'Conil' and southeastwards 'Conil' and 'Cabo de Trafalgar' (Cape Trafalgar).
After a short slope down to the entrance of this little port we got back to the cliff after have passed across 'Cala del Aceite'. This coastline have witnessed one of the most important episodes of spanish naval history, the Battle of Trafalgar (which actually acted out nearer of 'Cabo Roche' than of the cape that named the battle). Travelers coming here between April and June can see assemblied the Almadraba (trap-net), an ancient fixed trap netting system which have marked the character and economy of the villages in the area. There isn't also infrequent to see killer whales near of the beach at the spring evenings at dusk.
We'll gain access to Conil across the beaches of 'Fuente del Gallo' and 'La Fontanilla', and to cross the village we advise the streets nearest to the coast (not always is easy, because hotels and cottages would block our way on several occasions, forcing us to make little detours), to finally come out onto the seafront of 'Playa de los Bateles' (Bateles Beach).
note: The total mileage of the section includes the 4,10 km. (at list) we cover from 'Conil' entrance to have left the village heading 'Barbate'. In the percentages of trail, asphalt and paths, so in the roadbook, we only are included the first 19,30 km. of the section, because the choice of the way to cross through the village is left to the touring cyclist. In spite of our advise to use the promenade, it's also an excellent choice to go across its white, narrow and steeped streets.
